As the primary power unit of excavator hydraulic circuits, the main hydraulic pump is engine-driven to convert mechanical energy into high-pressure hydraulic energy. It delivers pressurized hydraulic fluid to hydraulic motors to power all of the excavator’s operational movements. Most engineering excavators adopt axial variable displacement piston pumps as their main hydraulic power pumps. Medium and large construction machinery utilizes an integrated dual main pump system combined with a rear-mounted pilot gear pump unit. Two autonomous high-pressure oil supply pipelines transport fluid to the main control valve to enable composite working functions, with a standard working pressure of 28–35MPa. The tail-end low-pressure pilot pump operates at 3 to 4MPa with low flow output, providing pilot pressure oil for control lever manipulation and main valve spool movement. Inside the pump, piston assemblies mounted on the cylinder block and pump housing rotate in synchronization with the main shaft, completing oil suction and pressure build-up processes. Fine-tuning the swash plate inclination modifies piston stroke length, thereby adjusting the pump’s displacement capacity. The external servo regulator drives swash plate movement in response to system hydraulic feedback signals. Increasing the swash plate angle enhances fluid flow and operating speed, while decreasing it cuts fuel consumption and eliminates engine stalling issues. The valve plate isolates low-pressure inlet and high-pressure outlet channels to complete hydraulic oil distribution operations. The pump integrates three intelligent control modes. Constant power control automatically lowers pump displacement when load increases, protecting engine components and improving power utilization efficiency. The LS load-sensing system provides on-demand hydraulic fluid flow and maintains low idle displacement to achieve fuel-saving results. The HP pressure limiting function reduces pump displacement at peak system pressure, preventing hydraulic pipeline and cylinder cracking faults. Typical pump failures include internal leakage induced by piston abrasion, valve plate damage or regulator blockage, causing slow machine operation and insufficient power output. A regulator fixed at maximum displacement will lead to engine overload, black smoke output and stalling under heavy load conditions. Severe internal leakage converts pressure loss into thermal energy, resulting in abnormal hydraulic oil overheating. Hydraulic system air intrusion, inadequate oil volume, and damaged bearings or pistons will trigger abnormal operating noise. Daily routine maintenance requires prompt replacement of hydraulic oil and filters to prevent wear on precision internal pump parts. Suction pipeline sealing must be guaranteed to avoid air suction and equipment vibration, and hydraulic oil levels should comply with specified standards to ensure stable pump working efficiency.
