The main hydraulic pump serves as the key power equipment for an excavator’s hydraulic circuit. Driven by the engine, it transforms mechanical energy into high-pressure hydraulic energy and supplies pressurized fluid to hydraulic motors, enabling all operational motions of the excavator. Axial variable displacement piston pumps are widely used as main hydraulic pumps on engineering excavators. Medium and large construction machines adopt an integrated twin main pump system matched with a rear pilot gear pump module. Two independent high-pressure oil supply lines deliver hydraulic fluid to the main control valve to realize combined working actions, with a standard working pressure range of 28 to 35MPa. The low-pressure pilot pump at the machine tail runs at 3–4MPa with low flow output, providing pilot pressure oil for control lever and main valve spool operation. Inside the pump body, piston assemblies installed on the cylinder block and pump housing rotate synchronously with the main shaft, finishing oil suction and pressure accumulation. Adjustments to swash plate inclination change piston stroke, thus altering the pump’s displacement volume. The external servo regulator controls swash plate motion based on hydraulic feedback signals. A larger swash plate angle boosts fluid delivery rate and working speed, while a smaller angle reduces fuel consumption and avoids engine stalling. The valve plate separates low-pressure inlet and high-pressure outlet passages to complete hydraulic oil distribution work. Three intelligent control modes are configured for pump operation. Constant power control automatically reduces pump displacement as load rises, protecting the engine and optimizing power usage efficiency. The LS load-sensing system supplies fluid according to actual demand and maintains low displacement during idling to save fuel. The HP pressure limiting function cuts pump displacement when pressure reaches its peak, preventing hydraulic pipelines and cylinders from cracking. Common faults include internal leakage caused by piston wear, valve plate damage or regulator blockage, leading to slow machine operation and power deficits. When the regulator is stuck at maximum displacement, the engine will overload, emit black smoke and stall under heavy working loads. Severe internal leakage turns pressure loss into heat, causing abnormal hydraulic oil overheating. Air entering the hydraulic system, insufficient oil quantity, and damaged bearings or pistons will produce abnormal running noise. Routine maintenance needs timely replacement of hydraulic oil and filters to prevent wear on precision internal components. Tight sealing of suction pipelines must be ensured to stop air suction and equipment vibration, and hydraulic oil must be kept at the specified level to maintain stable pump efficiency.
