Functioning as the primary power unit of excavator hydraulic systems, the main hydraulic pump receives power from the engine to convert mechanical energy into high-pressure hydraulic energy. It supplies pressurized hydraulic fluid to hydraulic motors to drive all operational movements of the excavator. Engineering excavators mainly adopt axial variable displacement piston pumps as their main hydraulic pumping devices. For medium and large construction machinery, an integrated dual main pump system with a rear pilot gear pump module is the standard configuration. Two separate high-pressure oil supply lines convey fluid to the main control valve to achieve composite working actions, with a standard working pressure of 28–35MPa. The tail-end low-pressure pilot pump operates at 3 to 4MPa with low flow output, offering pilot pressure oil for the operation of control levers and main valve spools. Within the pump, piston assemblies mounted on the cylinder block and pump housing rotate synchronously with the main shaft, completing oil suction and pressure build-up cycles. Swash plate inclination adjustment modifies piston stroke length, thereby changing the pump’s displacement capacity. The external servo regulator actuates swash plate movement in response to hydraulic feedback signals from the system. An increased swash plate angle improves fluid flow and operation speed, while a reduced angle minimizes fuel consumption and eliminates engine stalling failures. The valve plate divides low-pressure inlet and high-pressure outlet channels to realize hydraulic oil distribution. The pump is fitted with three intelligent control modes. Constant power control automatically decreases pump displacement under increasing load, protecting the engine and enhancing power utilization rates. The LS load-sensing system delivers on-demand fluid flow and maintains low idle displacement to produce fuel-saving effects. The HP pressure limiting function reduces pump displacement at peak pressure values, preventing cracking of hydraulic pipelines and cylinders. Typical equipment failures include internal leakage stemming from piston abrasion, valve plate damage or regulator blockage, resulting in sluggish machine operation and power insufficiency. A regulator fixed at maximum displacement causes engine overload, black smoke emission and stalling during heavy-load operation. Severe internal leakage converts pressure loss into heat energy, leading to abnormal hydraulic oil temperature rise. Hydraulic system air ingress, inadequate oil volume, and faulty bearings or pistons induce abnormal operating noise. Regular maintenance requires timely replacement of hydraulic oil and filters to avoid wear on precision internal pump parts. Suction pipelines need tight sealing to prevent air suction and mechanical vibration, and hydraulic oil levels must meet specified standards to guarantee stable pump working efficiency.
