As the primary power supply unit for excavator hydraulic circuits, the main hydraulic pump is engine-driven to transform mechanical energy into high-pressure hydraulic energy. It delivers pressurized hydraulic fluid to hydraulic motors to power all operational movements of the excavator. Most engineering excavation equipment uses axial variable displacement piston pumps as main hydraulic pumps. Medium and large construction machinery adopts an integrated dual main pump system combined with a rear-mounted pilot gear pump assembly. Two autonomous high-pressure oil supply pipelines deliver fluid to the main control valve to realize composite working actions, with a standard working pressure of 28–35MPa. The tail low-pressure pilot pump operates at 3 to 4MPa with low flow output, supplying pilot pressure oil for control lever and main valve spool actuation. Inside the pump, piston assemblies mounted on the cylinder block and pump housing rotate in sync with the main shaft, finishing oil suction and pressure build-up. Swash plate inclination adjustments modify piston stroke length, thereby regulating the pump’s displacement capacity. The external servo regulator responds to hydraulic feedback signals to control swash plate movement. Boosting the swash plate angle increases fluid flow and operation speed, while reducing it lowers fuel consumption and eliminates engine stalling problems. The valve plate separates low-pressure inlet and high-pressure outlet passages to complete hydraulic oil distribution operations. The pump is configured with three intelligent control functions. Constant power control automatically reduces pump displacement under rising load conditions, protecting the engine and improving power utilization efficiency. The LS load-sensing system provides on-demand fluid supply and maintains low displacement during idling to achieve fuel-saving effects. The HP pressure limiting function cuts pump displacement at peak system pressure, preventing hydraulic pipelines and cylinders from cracking. Typical pump failures include internal leakage induced by piston wear, valve plate damage or regulator blockage, resulting in slow machine operation and power deficit. A regulator fixed at maximum displacement will cause engine overload, black smoke exhaust and stalling under heavy working conditions. Severe internal leakage converts pressure loss into thermal energy, leading to abnormal hydraulic oil overheating. Hydraulic system air ingress, inadequate oil volume, and damaged bearings or pistons trigger abnormal operating noise. Daily maintenance requires timely replacement of hydraulic oil and filters to prevent wear on precision internal pump parts. Suction pipelines must be fully sealed to avoid air suction and equipment vibration, and hydraulic oil levels must comply with specified standards to ensure stable pump working efficiency.
