Serving as the primary power unit for excavator hydraulic circuits, the main hydraulic pump relies on engine power to convert mechanical energy into high-pressure hydraulic energy. It provides pressurized hydraulic fluid to hydraulic motors to drive all of the excavator’s operational movements. Engineering excavators predominantly adopt axial variable displacement piston pumps as their core hydraulic power pumps. Medium and large construction machinery features an integrated dual main pump system integrated with a rear pilot gear pump module. Two separate high-pressure oil delivery lines feed fluid into the main control valve to accomplish composite working actions, with a standard working pressure of 28–35MPa. The low-pressure pilot pump at the machine tail operates at 3 to 4MPa with low flow output, supplying pilot pressure oil for control lever manipulation and main valve spool movement. Inside the pump, piston assemblies mounted on the cylinder block and pump housing rotate synchronously with the main shaft, finishing oil suction and pressure build-up processes. Swash plate inclination adjustment modifies piston stroke, thereby changing the pump’s displacement volume. The external servo regulator controls swash plate motion in response to hydraulic feedback signals. Increasing the swash plate angle boosts fluid flow rate and operation speed, while decreasing it cuts fuel consumption and eliminates engine stalling issues. The valve plate divides low-pressure intake and high-pressure discharge passages to complete hydraulic oil distribution work. The pump is equipped with three intelligent control modes for optimized operation. Constant power control automatically reduces pump displacement under increased load, protecting engine components and improving power utilization efficiency. The LS load-sensing system delivers on-demand fluid flow and maintains low displacement during idling to achieve fuel-saving results. The HP pressure limiting function lowers pump displacement at peak pressure, preventing hydraulic pipeline and cylinder cracking faults. Typical failures include internal leakage stemming from piston abrasion, valve plate damage or regulator blockage, resulting in slow machine operation and power deficiency. A regulator fixed at maximum displacement leads to engine overload, black smoke output and stalling under heavy working loads. Severe internal leakage converts pressure loss into heat, triggering abnormal overheating of hydraulic oil. Hydraulic system air ingress, inadequate oil volume, and damaged bearings or pistons induce abnormal operating noise. Regular maintenance requires timely replacement of hydraulic oil and filters to avoid wear on precision internal pump parts. Suction pipeline sealing must be guaranteed to stop air suction and equipment vibration, and hydraulic oil must be maintained at specified levels to ensure stable pump working efficiency.
