Serving as the central power equipment for excavator hydraulic circuits, the main hydraulic pump receives engine power to convert mechanical energy into high-pressure hydraulic energy. It provides pressurized hydraulic fluid to hydraulic motors to drive all working motions of the excavator. Axial variable displacement piston pumps are widely used on various engineering excavators. Medium and large excavator models adopt integrated dual main pumps matched with a rear-mounted pilot gear pump unit. Two independent high-pressure oil supply circuits supply fluid to the main control valve, supporting compound working movements, with a rated working pressure of 28–35MPa. The low-pressure pilot pump mounted at the tail operates at 3–4MPa with low flow, offering pilot pressure oil for control lever and main valve spool control. Piston groups installed inside the cylinder block and pump casing rotate along with the main shaft, completing oil absorption and pressurization processes. Changing the swash plate tilt angle adjusts piston stroke, which modulates the pump’s displacement value. The external servo regulator controls swash plate movement in response to hydraulic feedback. Increasing the tilt angle improves flow rate and operation speed, while decreasing it reduces fuel consumption and avoids engine stalling. The valve plate divides low-pressure inlet and high-pressure outlet passages to realize hydraulic oil distribution. The pump is equipped with three core control functions for stable operation. Constant power control automatically reduces pump displacement under increased load conditions, protecting the engine and raising power usage efficiency. The LS load-sensing system supplies flow according to actual working requirements and maintains low idle displacement to save fuel. The HP pressure limiting function cuts pump displacement at peak pressure values, protecting hydraulic pipelines and oil cylinders from rupture damage. Common faults include internal leakage due to worn pistons, broken valve plates or blocked regulators, leading to slow operation speed and insufficient power output. A locked maximum-displacement regulator will cause engine overload, black smoke exhaust and stalling during heavy-duty operation. Excessive internal leakage turns pressure loss into heat energy, triggering abnormal hydraulic oil temperature rise. System air intake, insufficient hydraulic oil level, and damaged bearings or pistons will generate abnormal operating noise. Daily maintenance work involves regular replacement of hydraulic oil and filter elements to prevent abrasion of precision internal components. Ensure good tightness of oil suction pipes to prevent air ingestion and equipment vibration, and keep hydraulic fluid at the standard level to maintain stable pump performance.
