The main hydraulic pump functions as the primary power core of an excavator’s hydraulic circuit. Powered by the engine, it converts mechanical energy into high-pressure hydraulic energy and transports pressurized fluid to hydraulic motors, enabling all operational movements of the excavator. Engineering excavators mostly use axial variable displacement piston pumps for their main hydraulic systems. Medium and large construction machines are fitted with integrated twin main pumps and a rear pilot gear pump assembly. Two autonomous high-pressure oil supply pipelines feed the main control valve to enable composite working actions, with a nominal working pressure ranging from 28 to 35MPa. The tail-end low-pressure pilot pump operates at 3 to 4MPa with low flow output, supplying pilot pressure oil for control handle and main valve spool operation. Piston assemblies fixed in the cylinder block and pump casing rotate with the main shaft, finishing oil suction and pressure build-up procedures. Adjustments to the swash plate’s tilt angle modify piston stroke length, thereby altering the pump’s displacement capacity. The external servo regulator drives swash plate movement according to hydraulic feedback signals. A larger tilt angle increases fluid flow and operation speed, while a smaller angle cuts fuel consumption and eliminates engine stalling problems. The valve plate separates low-pressure inlet and high-pressure outlet channels to achieve hydraulic oil distribution. Three advanced control systems optimize pump working performance. Constant power control automatically lowers pump displacement as load increases, protecting the engine and optimizing overall power utilization rate. The LS load-sensing system delivers on-demand fluid flow and maintains low displacement at idle status to achieve fuel-saving effects. The HP pressure limiting function minimizes pump displacement at peak pressure to prevent hydraulic pipelines and cylinders from cracking damage. Typical malfunctions include internal leakage caused by piston abrasion, valve plate damage or regulator blockage, resulting in slow operation and power deficit. If the regulator is fixed at maximum displacement, the engine will suffer overload, emit black smoke and stall under heavy working loads. Severe internal leakage converts pressure loss into thermal energy, causing abnormal hydraulic oil overheating. Air entering the hydraulic system, inadequate oil volume, and damaged bearings or pistons will induce abnormal running noise. Routine maintenance includes timely replacement of hydraulic oil and filters to avoid wear on precision internal parts. Guarantee tight sealing of suction pipelines to prevent air suction and machine vibration, and keep hydraulic oil at the specified level to ensure stable pump working efficiency.
