Function
As the dedicated hydraulic actuator for excavator slewing motion, swing motor receives pressurized fluid from main pump, converting hydraulic energy into rotary mechanical power. Combined with swing reduction gearbox, it drives upper machine body to rotate forward and backward around center pivot, facilitating excavation dumping, material arrangement and position correction on construction sites.
Structure
Main internal components consist of rotary groups including pistons, cylinder barrel, port plate, slipper and pressure plate, integrated spring-type parking brake assembly, anti-backlash balancing valve, pressure-limiting overflow valve and oil supply check valve modules. Matched planetary swing reducer achieves speed reduction and torque amplification, outputting large torque to bear heavy eccentric load during slewing operation. Built-in brake structure automatically locks rotation position once control pressure oil supply is terminated.
Working Principle
Operation of swing pilot handle outputs pilot pressure oil to disengage parking brake mechanism. Alternating high-pressure oil feeding two motor working ports pushes pistons to perform linear reciprocating motion inside cylinder barrel; port plate realizes continuous oil distribution between inlet and outlet chambers to drive rotary assembly and output shaft to rotate. Anti-drift balancing valve offsets back pressure produced by rotational inertia, eliminating upper body reverse swing after stopping operation. Pressure limiting overflow valve prevents instantaneous overpressure impact damage, and charge check valve supplements low-pressure oil to eliminate internal vacuum cavitation phenomenon.
Common Failures
Increased matching clearance from piston-cylinder wear, port plate surface scratch or slipper ablation leads to heavy internal leakage, with typical faults of insufficient slewing torque, slow rotation and delayed stop action. Fatigued brake springs, severely worn friction plates or seized brake valve spools result in incomplete brake release, presenting stiff rotation, slewing vibration or parking slipping failure. Malfunctioned anti-recoil valve causes apparent backward rotation after swing stop. Excessive internal leakage converts pressure loss into heat, leading to abnormal hydraulic oil temperature rise; damaged bearings or internal metal impurities generate abnormal collision noise during operation. Aging outer sealing components trigger external hydraulic oil leakage.
Maintenance
Regularly inspect motor shell, sealing points and pipe connectors for hydraulic oil seepage. Replace hydraulic oil and filter elements on fixed cycle to avoid abrasive wear of internal precision matching parts. Periodically detect brake gap and friction plate wear degree, timely replace over-worn brake parts. Guarantee smooth circulation of drain pipeline to prevent excessive casing internal pressure. Regularly verify working performance of charge valve and overflow valve, disassemble and clean stuck valve spools to maintain steady slewing smoothness and stable parking braking reliability.
