Function
The hydraulic swing motor constitutes the power core of excavator slewing system. It takes high-pressure hydraulic oil output from main pump as power source, converting hydraulic energy into rotary mechanical torque, and transmits power to swing reducer to drive upper carriage to complete 360° bidirectional rotation relative to undercarriage, meeting construction demands of unloading, stacking and position adjustment.
Structure
Internal assembly is composed of rotary assemblies (piston groups, cylinder block, valve plate, slipper assemblies and pressure plate), integrated wet parking brake unit, anti-reverse drift valve, pressure relief overflow valve and charge one-way valve subassemblies. The matched planetary swing reducer realizes speed reduction and torque rise, outputting large driving torque to adapt to heavy-load slewing working scenarios. The built-in brake piston and friction disc assembly automatically locks rotation position when hydraulic control oil supply is cut off.
Working Principle
When swing pilot handle is operated, pilot pressure oil pushes brake spool to release parking brake constraint. Alternating high-pressure oil entering two motor service ports drives pistons to reciprocate linearly inside cylinder block; valve plate separates high-pressure inlet and low-pressure outlet passages continuously to drive rotary group and output shaft rotation. Anti-recoil balancing valve balances residual back pressure on oil return side, preventing upper structure reverse drifting caused by rotational inertia after operation shutdown. Overflow valve limits system peak pressure to protect internal precision components, while charge check valve supplements low-pressure oil to restrain internal cavitation generation.
Common Failures
Worn pistons, abraded valve plate sealing surface or burnt slippers induce severe internal leakage, resulting in insufficient slewing power, low rotating speed and slow stop response. Over-worn brake friction discs, fatigued brake springs or jammed brake spools cause incomplete brake release, bringing large rotation resistance, slewing jitter or parking slipping failure. Failed anti-drift balancing valve leads to obvious backward rotation after swing stop. Serious internal leakage produces heat from pressure loss and abnormal hydraulic oil temperature rise; damaged bearings or internal metal contaminants generate abnormal knocking noise during motor running. Aging external seals cause outward hydraulic oil seepage.
Maintenance
Conduct routine inspection on motor housing, sealing positions and pipeline joints for oil leakage traces. Periodically replace hydraulic oil and filter elements to prevent particle abrasion of internal precision matching surfaces. Regularly measure brake clearance and friction plate wear, replace brake consumables when wear exceeds specified limit. Ensure drain oil pipeline unobstructed to avoid excessive casing pressure accumulation. Periodically test operating state of charge valve and overflow valve, clean or replace stuck valve spools to guarantee stable and smooth slewing performance and reliable parking braking effect.
