High-pressure hydraulic fluid supplied from the main pump enters the travel motor’s valve plate, driving its plungers to spin at high speed. The motor output shaft links to a three-stage planetary reduction gear train. Following successive speed reduction and torque multiplication, power is transferred to the drive sprocket. Separate oil supply circuits serve the left and right travel motors; controlling the disparity in rotational speed between the two units enables straight movement, turning and hill climbing.
This integrated unit houses both an overload relief valve and a brake piston. During machine shutdown, brake springs clamp the friction discs to secure the output shaft and stop downhill slipping. When hydraulic fluid is fed into the system, oil pressure forces the brake discs apart to disengage the brake and allow regular travel.
