The main hydraulic pump serves as the pivotal power component of excavator hydraulic loops, utilizing engine driving force to transform mechanical energy into high-pressure hydraulic energy. It conveys pressurized hydraulic fluid to hydraulic motors to enable all working actions of the excavator. The majority of engineering excavators adopt axial variable displacement piston pumps. Medium and large excavator models feature an integrated dual main pump and rear pilot gear pump combination. Two standalone high-pressure oil supply circuits supply fluid to the main control valve, enabling simultaneous compound working movements, with a rated working pressure range of 28MPa to 35MPa. Installed at the machine rear, the low-pressure pilot pump runs at 3–4MPa with low flow output, offering pilot pressure oil for control handle operation and main valve spool regulation. Piston groups mounted on the cylinder block and pump casing rotate synchronously with the main shaft, accomplishing oil absorption and pressurization processes. Changing the swash plate’s tilt angle adjusts piston stroke length, which modifies the pump’s displacement capacity. An external servo regulator governs swash plate movement based on real-time hydraulic feedback signals. A greater swash plate angle enhances flow rate and operational speed, while a smaller angle lowers fuel consumption and prevents engine stalling. The valve plate divides low-pressure inlet and high-pressure outlet channels to realize effective hydraulic oil distribution. The pump integrates three core control functions to ensure stable and dependable operation. Constant power control automatically decreases pump displacement under rising load conditions, protecting the engine and improving power utilization efficiency. The LS load-sensing system delivers flow tailored to actual working needs and maintains low idle displacement to conserve fuel. The HP pressure limiting function cuts pump displacement at peak pressure values, preventing hydraulic pipeline and oil cylinder rupture damage. Frequent equipment faults include internal leakage caused by worn pistons, fractured valve plates or clogged regulators, resulting in sluggish operation and insufficient power delivery. A stuck maximum-displacement regulator causes engine overload, black smoke emission and stalling during heavy-duty working conditions. Excessive internal leakage converts pressure loss into thermal energy, leading to abnormal hydraulic oil temperature elevation. Air entering the system, low hydraulic fluid levels and faulty bearings or pistons produce unusual operational noise. Regular daily upkeep entails periodic replacement of hydraulic oil and filter cartridges to avoid wear of precision internal components. Maintaining good tightness of oil suction pipelines prevents air ingestion and equipment vibration, while keeping hydraulic oil at standard levels sustains stable pump performance.
