Hammer Union Rubber Compounds: Fluid and Cleaning Exposure

When choosing NBR, HNBR or FKM for a hammer union seal, provide the conveyed fluid, concentration, operating temperature and any cleaning or flushing chemicals. A material-family name alone does not establish compatibility with every fluid mixture.

Match the rubber compound to the union manufacturer, figure number, nominal size and approved seal profile. Confirm whether the selected part requires a brass or stainless steel back-up. A compound substitution must retain the required fit and be reviewed for the assembly duty.

For a replacement order, include the original part reference or an unworn sample and identify any observed swelling, hardening or lip damage. Supply the service conditions so the proposed compound and hardness can be confirmed. Assembly pressure limits remain subject to the complete union specification.
