Hammer Union Seal Ring — Hardness, Compound and Backing Specification

This hammer union seal ring is selected for the sealing groove within the specified union hardware. Buna, NBR and nitrile name the same polymer family; FKM and HNBR are alternative families requiring their own compound specification. Specify the required nominal Shore A hardness and tolerance rather than treating every listed material as an identical 90-durometer product.
The thread end, nut end and hammer nut form the mechanical connection. Match the seal lip, retaining geometry and metal backing dimensions to the mating assembly drawing; the seal ring alone does not establish the pressure rating of the union.

For brass-backed or stainless-steel-backed seals, confirm backing material, section geometry, rubber-to-metal construction and groove fit. Figure 1502 service and test pressures must come from the complete assembly documentation and applicable test records; this listing does not certify a 15,000 PSI rating or a 22,500 PSI test for the individual seal. Sour-gas use requires compound-specific qualification, including gas composition, temperature, pressure and decompression conditions.

Figures 2202, 1004, 1502, 2002, 602 and 1002 identify different union configurations. Confirm the manufacturer, figure, nominal size and required lip seal or O-ring profile against the assembly documentation.
For the listed 1, 2, 3 and 4-inch nominal connection references, send actual seal ID, OD, height and groove dimensions. NBR, FKM or HNBR selection depends on fluid and temperature requirements. Specify brass or stainless steel backing where required by the drawing. PTFE is a separate construction option and must not be assumed interchangeable with a molded elastomer seal.

A: State the hardness scale, nominal value and tolerance with the exact compound designation. Hardness alone does not define fluid compatibility, bond quality or pressure capability.
Match the seal profile and backing to the union drawing.

Q2. Are Buna, NBR and nitrile different materials?
A: These terms refer to the nitrile rubber family. Select the specified formulation; FKM and HNBR are separate alternatives.

Q3. How is the pressure rating determined?
A: Use the complete union assembly rating and applicable test documentation. Include operating pressure, pressure peaks and temperature.
Do not assign an assembly rating to a loose seal ring without supporting evidence.

Q4.Can you review a replacement sample?
A: Send the original seal and mating groove dimensions, manufacturer/figure identification, backing details and compound requirements.

Q5. Is HNBR automatically suitable for sour gas?
A: Sour-service suitability requires qualification of the actual compound for the specified exposure and decompression conditions.
