Large and Small Silicone and Nitrile O-Rings — Dimensions and Profile Selection

Silicone (VMQ) and nitrile (NBR) O-rings are specified by inner diameter and circular cross-section. For a small ring, check installation stretch and gland dimensions; for a large ring, include diameter tolerance, handling and whether a continuous molded construction is required. Square-section rings and flat gaskets require their own drawings and must not be ordered by an O-ring size alone.

For hydraulic, pneumatic, plumbing or processing equipment, provide the mating groove, fluid, operating temperature and pressure cycle. Silicone and NBR compounds have different compatibility and mechanical properties. For food-contact applications, specify the applicable regulation, contact medium and cleaning conditions, and request documentation for the selected compound; polymer type and color alone do not establish food-contact compliance.
