Buna and HNBR Hammer Union Seals - FIG 1002 / 1502 Size and Colour References

Hammer union seals are used in the connections between flexible hoses or pipes used in the oil drilling industry. The seal profile is selected for the specified union hardware and operating requirements.
Hammer unions consist of a thread end, a nut end, and a hammer nut that when tightened seal the assembly with the assistance of an elastomeric seal. The seal is lipped to prevent it from falling out when inverted.
Some profiles such as Fig 206, Fig 1004, Fig 1502, Fig 2002, Fig 602, Fig 1002 etc require a Hammer Union Lip Seal or an 'O'Ring depending on the Size of the Hammer Union.
Nominal union-size references include 1, 1.5, 2, 3, 4, 6 and 7 inches. Select the specific Buna/NBR or HNBR compound and any brass or stainless support components against the union drawing. FKM references are separate material options. Sour-fluid or gas service requires qualification of the actual compound and assembly.

Colour Identification Does Not Replace Compound Approval

Specify the union manufacturer, FIG 1002 or 1502 designation, nominal size and drawing revision for each order line. Confirm the seal dimensions and any required support parts rather than assuming every listed size fits both figures.

Where black, blue or purple identification is required, agree the colour together with the compound reference and part number. Colour alone does not identify Buna, HNBR, hardness or sour-service qualification. Keep the approved material and drawing references with the supplied part.

For sour-oil or gas enquiries, provide fluid composition, temperature, pressure cycles and the required qualification documents. Confirm the actual compound and complete union construction before stating service approval or pressure limits.
