Hammer union seals are used in the connections between flexible hoses or pipes used in the oil drilling industry. The seal provides a critical fluid tight connection within the union hardware. Hammer unions consist of a thread end, a nut end, and a hammer nut that when tightened seal the assembly with the assistance of an elastomeric seal. The seal is lipped to prevent it from falling out when inverted. Some profiles such as Fig 1502, Fig 602, Fig 1002 , Fig 607 etc require a Hammer Union Lip Seal or an 'O'Ring depending on the Size of the Hammer Union. We produce 2",3", and 4" Hammer Union Seals in Nitrile for standard service and in FKM or HNBR grade subject to sour-service qualification. In addition to the standard molded rubber seals, we offer these with either a brass or stainless steel anti-extrusion ring.

Figure 1502 NBR Lip Seal Orders: Identify the Original Groove and Lip Section
For a Figure 1502 replacement, provide the equipment maker, part reference and nominal union size. The existing Weco reference identifies a compatibility enquiry; fit must be confirmed against the actual assembly. Provide seal diameters, overall height, lip section and support-ring details from the original drawing or an identifiable sample.
The lip geometry and seating surfaces determine how the seal fits the union groove. Inspect the groove and mating hardware for damage before fitting a replacement. Specify rubber-only, brass-backed or stainless-backed construction exactly as required by the original design. Do not substitute a general O-ring or another figure based on nominal size alone.
Select the NBR compound for the actual oil or drilling-fluid formulation, temperature cycle and cleaning exposure. Confirm hardness value, Shore test scale and tolerance before ordering.
