Application:

NBR nitrile hammer union seal rings are replacement sealing elements for compatible hose and pipe union connections used in oil-drilling equipment. Specify the nominal connection size, union figure and original seal drawing so that each ring matches its intended groove.

Product Description

A hammer union comprises of a thread end, a nut end and a hammer nut which, when cinched up, compresses a composite seal assembly thereby preventing leakage. The seal assembly comprises a metal insert of a size to pass into the seal groove of conventional hammer unions and a small seal acting between the insert, the thread end and the nut end. The small seal is conveniently an O-ring or a Hammer Union Seal (Lip Seal) and is of a size that is compressed when the seal assembly is inserted into the thread end of the hammer union.

The hammer union is the complete metal connection; the seal ring is its replaceable sealing element. Figure references including 602, 1002, 1502, 2002 and 2202 require their own manufacturer drawing and groove confirmation. Seal rings must not be assumed interchangeable between figures.

Material:

For a custom-size union seal, select one compound and hardness per drawing. NBR, nitrile and Buna-N identify the same polymer family; HNBR/HSN, FKM and PU are separate options. PTFE is a separate thermoplastic choice requiring its own design review.

For Figure 1502 replacement enquiries, match the seal profile and any brass or stainless steel support ring to the original connection drawing. Working pressure and proof-test requirements belong to the complete union assembly; confirm the manufacturer rating, service conditions and applicable test records. A seal material or nominal size alone does not establish a pressure rating.

Custom-Size Hammer Union Seals: Define Profile and Tolerances Before Material Selection

A custom union seal needs more than a nominal pipe size. Send the original union figure and a dimensioned section drawing identifying inner and outer diameters, height, lip or groove features and tolerances. Include any brass or stainless support ring as part of the agreed construction.

If using a replacement sample, identify its original part reference and service history. Confirm the finished dimensions against the mating groove; a worn or deformed sample alone cannot define the production drawing. Agree the drawing revision and sample-fit criteria before production.

Specify the compound grade, hardness and quantity after reviewing fluid composition, temperature and pressure cycling. Material aliases do not describe different products, and changing polymer does not by itself preserve fit or service suitability. Confirm the complete union assembly rating separately.
