Hammer union seals are used in the connections between flexible hoses or pipes used in the oil drilling industry. The seal provides a critical fluid tight connection within the union hardware.

                                 Product Description                                                  

A hammer union comprises of a thread end, a nut end and a hammer nut which, when cinched up, compresses a composite seal assembly thereby preventing leakage. The seal assembly comprises a metal insert of a size to pass into the seal groove of conventional hammer unions and a small seal acting between the insert, the thread end and the nut end. The small seal is conveniently an O-ring or a Hammer Union Seal (Lip Seal) and is of a size that is compressed when the seal assembly is inserted into the thread end of the hammer union.

Figure 1502 replacement fit requires the original union drawing and selected compound. Confirm working pressure and any proof-test requirement from the complete union specification and applicable documentation. Brass-backed and stainless-backed versions are separate construction choices; no universal pressure or proof-test rating is stated for the seal alone.

Figure 1502 FKM Replacement Orders: Identify the Fluoroelastomer Grade

Specify the FKM compound grade rather than requesting fluoroelastomer by material family alone. Provide the actual process fluid, additives, cleaning agents and temperature cycle for review. Gas-service or chemical suitability requires documentation for the selected grade and exposure conditions.

For each nominal 2, 3 or 4-inch Figure 1502 replacement, provide the union maker reference and original seal drawing. Confirm lip section and rubber-only, brass-backed or stainless-backed construction independently for each size. Do not select a seal solely from a nominal pipe size or product photograph.

Agree hardness value, test scale, tolerance and required material and inspection documents for the supplied FKM part. Keep NBR or HNBR alternatives on separate order lines. Confirm working pressure and any proof-test requirement against the complete union specification before sample approval.
