Custom molded rubber parts from drawing and tooling review through sample approval and production, with inspection requirements agreed for each component.
Define the part function, mating surfaces, critical dimensions and tolerances in the drawing. Include required rubber hardness, fluid exposure, operating temperature and any load or movement conditions so that the compound and molding process can be reviewed.

1. Which dimensions should be identified on a custom molded part?
Identify sealing or contact surfaces, assembly datums, holes, wall thicknesses and dimensions that control fit. Specify how each critical dimension will be measured and whether inspection is performed on the free part or in its assembled condition.
Rubber deformation can affect measurement. Agree the sample conditioning, measurement method and acceptance limits with the drawing; a photograph alone does not define production tolerances.
2. What should be approved before bulk molding?
a. Approve the drawing revision, selected compound, hardness and color for the component.
b. Review molded sample fit, parting-line position, permitted flash and appearance on the functional surfaces.
c. Agree inspection records, batch identification and packing requirements; ISO 9001 does not replace product-specific tests or drawing acceptance.
d. Lean production management mode.
