Plastic Drill Pipe Thread Protector Caps — Tool-Joint Profile Selection
Drill pipe protector caps are selected for the exact tool-joint connection, with pin and box ends specified separately. Provide the connection designation, size and drawing, including thread engagement and seal-area coverage; drill pipe body diameter alone does not identify the protector.
Specify HDPE or ABS grade, handling temperature and transport or storage exposure. Agree the cap profile, removal features, material documentation and fit acceptance. The protector is a handling accessory rather than a pressure closure or lifting device.

Plastic caps help shield drill pipe connection threads and seal areas during transportation and storage. Match the cap to the approved tool-joint drawing and check secure engagement without damaging the connection.
Inspect caps for cracking, distorted threads, contamination and damaged removal features before reuse. Follow the drilling equipment handling procedure and replace a protector that no longer fits the specified pin or box.
Plastic and metal-plastic composite protectors are separate constructions. Select the approved resin and design for the required handling duty; do not assume the same performance from different constructions.
Drill-pipe enquiries may reference NC26, NC38, NC50 or a specified REG connection, subject to exact profile confirmation. BTC, STC and LTC casing references require separate protectors. Any API-related requirement must identify the applicable standard and dimensional inspection criteria before conformity can be established.
