Product Description
A hammer union comprises of a thread end, a nut end and a hammer nut which, when cinched up, compresses a composite seal assembly thereby preventing leakage.
The seal assembly comprises a metal insert of a size to pass into the seal groove of conventional hammer unions and a small seal acting between the insert, the thread end and the nut end.
The small seal is conveniently an O-ring or a Hammer Union Seal (Lip Seal) and is of a size that is compressed when the seal assembly is inserted into the thread end of the hammer union.
A hammer union is the complete metal connection; the seal is its replaceable sealing element. Confirm the manufacturer drawing and groove for each connection.
Figure references 602, 1002, 1502, 2002 and 2202 require their own seal drawing and service review.

Material:
The stated material attribute is NBR (nitrile/Buna-N). Fluoroelastomer/FKM is a different polymer family and must be specified as a separate option. Confirm the exact grade and hardness for each seal drawing.

For Figure 1502 enquiries, confirm the complete union manufacturer rating and applicable proof-test documentation. A replacement seal has no independent assembly pressure rating.
Brass-supported and stainless-supported seal enquiries require the specified metal grade, support geometry and original groove drawing.
Application
NBR nitrile hammer union seal rings are replacement sealing elements for compatible hose and pipe union connections used in oil-drilling equipment. Specify the nominal connection size, union figure and original seal drawing so that each ring matches its intended groove.

2, 3 and 4 Inch Union Seal Enquiries: Distinguish Buna-N from FKM
Buna-N identifies nitrile rubber, while FKM identifies a fluoroelastomer family. They are not the same material. Specify which compound is required for each 2, 3 or 4 inch nominal union connection and confirm the original part reference and lip-section drawing.
Do not replace an NBR seal with an FKM option solely from a shared size description. Review fluid formulation, temperature, pressure cycling and required qualification against the exact compound. Confirm any brass or stainless support geometry and the finished seal dimensions for the original groove.
List quantity, material grade, hardness and acceptance criteria separately for each size. Nominal connection size does not define ring diameters or section height. The complete union assembly rating and any gas-service qualification require separate manufacturer and compound documentation.
