Internal / External Thread Protector Plastic Material For Oil Country Tubular Goods
Internal and External Plastic Thread Protectors for OCTG — Pin and Box Identification
Plastic thread protectors cover exposed OCTG connections during transportation and storage. Distinguish the pipe end from the protector thread: an externally threaded pipe pin takes a protector with a matching internal thread, while an internally threaded box takes a protector with a matching external thread. Specify both the protected end and the protector geometry in the order to prevent selection errors.
Configuration data: pipe type and nominal size, exact connection designation, pin or box end, thread profile, engagement length and shoulder clearance. Casing, tubing and drill-pipe connections require separate drawings. BTC, STC, LTC, NC and REG references do not indicate interchangeable protectors.
Pin and Box Protector Selection:
1. Identify whether the protected pipe end is a pin or a box.
2. Specify storage exposure and temperature for resin selection.
3. Plastic construction; define reinforcement separately if required.
4. Mark the pipe-end orientation and part number clearly.
5. Check installation and removal on the correct mating end.
6. Provide the exact connection drawing and revision.
7. Define thread coverage and clearance around sealing surfaces.
8. Treat the pin protector and box protector as separate parts.
9. Agree retention and impact tests when required by the application.
10. Inspect engagement surfaces and body condition before reuse.
11. Pack paired protectors with distinct pin and box labels.

Our company
Shanghai Qinuo Industry Co. Ltd accepts custom plastic protector enquiries. Send separate pin-end and box-end drawings or mating samples with the required quantities.
OEM and ODM review covers the mating geometry, resin requirements and identification method. State whether the order includes one end type or a matched pair.
Tooling and sample requirements depend on each protector geometry. Review pin and box samples independently and confirm the production route and schedule during quotation.
ISO 9001 quality management applies. Agree dimensional inspection, trial-fit acceptance and any product-specific tests for each part number.
FAQ
1. What does internal or external mean when ordering?
Clarify whether it describes the pipe thread or the protector thread. Their mating orientations are opposite.
Write both descriptions on the enquiry, for example: protector with internal thread for the specified pipe pin.
2. What information is needed for a paired order?
a. Pipe type, size and connection designation.
b. A drawing for each pin and box configuration.
c. Engagement length and protected shoulder dimensions.
d. Resin grade and exposure requirements.
e. Quantity assigned to each end type.
f. Separate part numbers and readable end-orientation labels.
g. Sample fit approval for both mating ends.
3. Can one protector cover different connection types?
1. Check the exact thread profile and dimensions for each connection.
2. Do not assume compatibility from pipe diameter alone.
3. Review proprietary connections against the supplied drawing.
4. Check shoulder clearance and coverage on the actual mating part.
5. Keep approved configurations under separate part numbers.
4. How should pin and box protectors be inspected?
1. Match the label to the intended pipe end.
2. Check the protector body for molding defects and cracks.
3. Inspect the mating thread for damage or contamination.
4. Verify engagement and removal against the approved sample.
5. Reject distorted parts that no longer retain correctly.
Other oilfield accessories require their own checks of mating dimensions and service conditions.
Send the pin and box connection details, quantities and identification requirements for a configuration-specific quotation.
