Steel Drill Pipe Plastic Thread Protectors With Excellent Sealing Ability
Plastic Drill Pipe Thread Protectors — Closure, Retention and Storage Protection
Plastic drill-pipe thread protectors cover exposed connections during handling, transport and storage. Select the protector against the actual tool-joint drawing, including the pin or box end and the shoulder clearance. A cover intended to reduce dirt or water entry must have a defined closure arrangement; it should not be treated as a pressure-containing seal. Specify a plastic design or a separately defined metal-plastic composite design for the enquiry.
Connection selection: provide the drill-pipe or tool-joint size, connection designation, thread profile, engagement length and end orientation. NC and REG references identify connection configurations and are not interchangeable diameter labels. BTC, STC and LTC references belong to separate casing configurations and do not demonstrate drill-pipe fit.
Closure and Storage Protection Review:
1. Define which thread and shoulder surfaces the protector must cover.
2. State outdoor exposure, temperature and storage duration for material review.
3. Specify resin grade and any reinforcement on the drawing; steel construction is a separate design choice.
4. Define part-number and connection markings to avoid incorrect installation.
5. Check engagement and removal on the actual mating component.
6. Identify the exact pin or box connection rather than a general standard claim.
7. Agree clearances around the thread, shoulder and sealing surfaces.
8. Choose a closed end, drainage opening or ventilation feature according to storage requirements.
9. Define any water-entry, impact or retention test and its acceptance criteria.
10. Inspect for cracks, deformation and damaged engagement surfaces before reuse.
11. Keep storage protection separate from pressure-sealing requirements.

Our company
Shanghai Qinuo Industry Co. Ltd accepts custom protector enquiries based on drawings or mating samples. Include the required closure arrangement and storage conditions with the connection information.
Plastic and metal-plastic composite protector requests need their own material and construction specifications. OEM and ODM review should define the protected surfaces, retention method and identification requirements.
Manufacturing and sample plans depend on the selected resin and geometry. Confirm tooling requirements, sample fit checks and the delivery schedule during quotation.
ISO 9001 quality management applies. Agree dimensional inspection and any product-specific environmental or retention tests for the selected configuration.
FAQ
1. Does a closed protector provide a pressure seal?
A closed end covers the connection, but pressure containment requires a separately designed and tested sealing system.
For storage protection, define the allowable water or dirt entry and the test conditions needed for acceptance.
2. What should a closure enquiry include?
a. Connection drawing and pin or box end orientation.
b. Coverage length and shoulder clearance.
c. Closed-end, drainage or ventilation requirements.
d. Resin grade and exposure conditions.
e. Installation and retention requirements.
f. Intended storage duration and reuse inspection criteria.
g. Agreed tests and measurable acceptance limits.
3. How is protector fit checked?
1. Review the dimensions and tolerances against the mating connection.
2. Check the sample for smooth engagement without cross-threading.
3. Confirm shoulder clearance and thread coverage.
4. Verify installation and removal using the agreed method.
5. Record the approved sample and drawing revision for repeat orders.
4. When should a protector be replaced?
1. Replace parts with cracks or permanent distortion.
2. Reject damaged or contaminated engagement surfaces.
3. Check that identification remains readable.
4. Review loss of retention or changed fit before reuse.
5. Follow the agreed inspection criteria for the storage application.
Related oilfield accessories require separate checks of mating dimensions and operating requirements.
Send a connection drawing or original sample with the closure requirements, exposure conditions and order quantity.
