Tooling and inspection requirements are reviewed for the selected compound and geometry. Include any metal insert, bonding, marking or surface-finish requirements.

1. What is needed to develop a custom molded seal?
Provide a dimensioned drawing and revision, mating hardware geometry, sealing direction and assembly conditions. A sample can support profile identification but should be accompanied by measured dimensions and requirements.
State whether the component is a static gasket, dynamic seal or non-sealing molded part; each needs different acceptance criteria.
2. How is the rubber compound selected?
a. Specify the exact fluid and additives.
b. Include normal and peak operating temperatures.
c. State nominal Shore A hardness and tolerance.
d. Include pressure cycles, motion and operating clearance where relevant.
e. Specify compression-set, tensile or tear requirements when needed.
f. Confirm color separately from material identity.
g. Density and chemical resistance are properties of the specified formulation, not universal values for every rubber seal.
3. What should be checked on molded samples?
1. Critical dimensions and tolerances against the drawing revision.
2. Sealing surfaces, flash and parting-line placement.
3. Compound identity and hardness requirements.
4. Fit with the actual mating parts and installation method.
5. Agreed functional tests under the specified service conditions.
