Rubber drill pipe wipers remove drilling mud from the outside of the pipe during withdrawal. Select Buna-N or NR using the mud formulation, temperature and wear requirements. Water-based and oil-based muds require separate compatibility review; specify the compound, nominal hardness and agreed inspection criteria.

For a standard wiper, confirm the master-bushing arrangement, seating diameter, thickness and pipe opening before ordering. Split or dual designs may use a split reinforcing ring and a different installation method; specify reinforcement on the drawing rather than assuming it applies to every standard wiper. Include tool-joint diameter and the rig procedure when assessing passage through the wiper.
