Product description

Hammer union seals are used in the connections between flexible hoses or pipes used in the oil drilling industry. The seal provides a critical fluid tight connection within the union hardware.

Hammer unions consist of a thread end, a nut end, and a hammer nut that when tightened seal the assembly with the assistance of an elastomer seal. The retaining lip profile must match the specified union groove; verify retention and sealing fit against the approved design.

With brass ring:A brass backing ring supports the seal where specified by the connection design. Confirm its geometry and alloy, together with the rubber compound. Suitability for acids, alkalis or salt water depends on the actual medium and conditions; brass backing alone does not guarantee sealing performance or service life.

With stainless ring: A stainless backing ring is selected by alloy grade, geometry and service environment. Confirm compatibility with the actual fluid and temperature; a generic stainless designation does not establish resistance to every acid, alkali or salt solution.

FIG 602, 1002 and 1502 Union Seals: Compare Brass and Stainless Backing Requirements

Choose the replacement by union manufacturer, figure number and nominal size before selecting the backing material. The original 1, 1.5, 2, 3 and 4-inch entries are range references. Confirm the seal dimensions and groove for the exact connection; FIG 602, 1002 and 1502 references do not establish interchangeable profiles.

When comparing brass-backed and stainless-backed seals, specify the metal alloy, ring dimensions and rubber-to-metal arrangement on the drawing or sample. Match the backing to the required support geometry and fluid environment. Black colour does not identify the rubber compound, and an 80 or 90 hardness reference must include its test scale and tolerance.

For an enquiry, provide the seal drawing, fluid composition, operating temperature and marked connection rating. Select NBR, FKM or HNBR by the compound requirements and confirm any special gas-service qualification separately. Inspect seal lips, backing surfaces and dimensions before fitting the replacement. Pressure capability depends on the exact union assembly and approved seal configuration.
