Static Dynamic VAnti Extrusion AS568 Backup Rings Uncut
AS568 O-Ring Anti-Extrusion Backup Rings — PTFE and Rubber Options
An anti-extrusion backup ring supports the primary O-ring at the clearance gap. Choose PTFE or a specified rubber compound against the gland drawing, installation method and operating conditions; nominal O-ring size alone does not establish ring fit.
Specify pressure peaks, clearance under load, fluid composition and temperature for material review. PTFE grades and rubber compounds have different deformation and compatibility requirements; no universal fluid or assembly pressure rating is established by this listing.
PTFE Backup Ring Material
Virgin PTFE hardness reference: 55 Shore D; confirm grade, test method and acceptance range.
Solid, scarf-cut and spiral constructions are separate choices. Identify the construction and installation route on the drawing before ordering.
Material range:
Virgin PTFE: review compression, creep and dimensional stability for the specified gland conditions.
Filled PTFE: specify glass, graphite, carbon or bronze formulation and filler content; review the fluid and mating-surface requirements.
| Virgin PTFE | 100% PTFE |
| Inorganic filler PTFE | Glass fiber, graphite, bronze, carbon fiber or MoS2; formulation by specification |
| Organic filler PTFE | Polyimide, aromatic polyester or polyphenylene sulfide; formulation by approval |
Send the AS568 O-ring dash number and gland drawing with ring ID, OD, thickness, tolerances and quantity for quotation.
Define the clearance that requires support and the groove space available beside the O-ring. Include seal squeeze and operating temperature when reviewing ring dimensions.
Where an O-ring shows extrusion damage, record the damaged area, pressure direction and operating gap. Inspect the mating surfaces and provide the seal compound so replacement support can be reviewed.
Compare PTFE grade and rubber compound options using the complete assembly requirements. Include installation access, motion, surface finish and dimensional tolerances; adding support is not a substitute for checking the gland design.
For a single pressure direction, position support on the low-pressure side of the O-ring. For reversing pressure, review support on both sides with the required groove width confirmed on the assembly drawing.
NBR or FKM 90-durometer backup rings are separate rubber options. Confirm hardness scale and compound designation; the PTFE reference uses Shore D rather than rubber Shore A.
Contoured rubber or plastic rings require an approved section profile and material specification.
