● Germanium (Ge) monocrystal is a chemically inert material and a common IR optical material. It has the
characteristics of high hardness, good thermal conductivity, and is insoluble in water.
● It is widely used in IR imaging system and IR spectrometer system, with good mechanical properties and thermal
conductivity. The absorption at 10.6um is very small. It is an ideal material for CO2 laser lenses, windows and output
coupling mirrors.
● It is usually used as the substrate material of various IR filters.
