Warnings & Precautions

Charging 

  • Use a NiMH-Specific Charger: Always use a charger designed for NiMH chemistry
  • Avoid Overcharging: Do not exceed the recommended charge times (e.g., 15 hours for 0.1C charge). Modern smart chargers with negative delta voltage (-ΔV) detection are preferred to terminate charge automatically.

  • Temperature Monitoring: Charge only within the specified temperature range (0°C to +45°C). Charging outside this range, especially below 0°C, can lead to reduced capacity and potential damage.

  • Charge in a Well-Ventilated Area: Provide adequate space around the charger and battery during charging.

Discharging 

  • Avoid Deep Discharge: While more tolerant than some chemistries, repeatedly discharging the battery to very low voltages (below 1.0V per cell) can shorten its lifespan.
  • Temperature Management: Avoid discharging outside the recommended temperature range (-20°C to +50°C). Extreme cold reduces performance; extreme heat accelerates aging.

  • Prevent Short Circuits: Short circuits can cause very high currents, leading to extreme overheating, terminal damage, or fire. Insulate terminals when not in use or during transport.

Storage 

  • Partial Charge Storage: For long-term storage, it is recommended to store the battery at a partial state of charge (around 40-60%). Storing the battery for extended periods while fully charged or fully discharged can lead to capacity degradation. 
  • Cool and Dry Environment: Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat sources. The ideal long-term (1 year) storage temperature is between -20°C to +25°C

  • Regular Checks: If stored for very long periods, check the voltage periodically and recharge if it drops significantly to prevent over-discharge.
