Warnings & Precautions

Charging

  • Use a NiCd-Specific Charger: Always use a charger designed for NiCd chemistry. Using an incompatible charger can be dangerous and may not terminate charging correctly .
  • Avoid Overcharging: While tolerant, excessive overcharging can damage the battery. Use smart chargers with negative delta voltage (-ΔV) detection or temperature cut-off (DTO) for rapid charging to terminate charge automatically .

  • Temperature Monitoring: Charge only within the specified temperature range (0°C to +45°C) . Charging outside this range can lead to reduced capacity and potential damage.

  • Charge in a Well-Ventilated Area: Provide adequate space around the charger and battery during charging.

 

 

Discharging

  • Avoid Excessive Deep Discharge: While periodic full discharge helps with memory effect, repeatedly discharging far below 1.0V per cell can be harmful.
  • Temperature Management: Avoid discharging outside the recommended temperature range (-20°C to +60°C). Extreme cold reduces performance; extreme heat accelerates aging.

  • Prevent Short Circuits: Never allow the positive (+) and negative (-) terminals to connect directly. Short circuits can cause very high currents, leading to extreme overheating, terminal damage, leakage, or fire.

 

Storage

  • Storage State: For long-term storage (longer than a few months), it is often recommended to store the battery in a discharged state.
  • Cool and Dry Environment: Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, moisture, and heat sources. The ideal storage temperature is between -20°C to +35°C.

  • Recovery after Storage: After prolonged storage, the battery may require a few charge/discharge cycles to regain its full capacity.
