Warnings & Precautions
Charging Precautions
- Use NiCd-specific chargers with temperature compensation
-
Maintain float voltage at 1.40-1.45V per cell at 20°C
-
Perform equalization charges monthly at 1.50-1.55V per cell
-
Monitor temperature during charging - reduce voltage at higher temperatures
-
Never exceed 1.65V per cell under any conditions
Electrolyte Handling
- Wear appropriate PPE: acid-resistant gloves, goggles, and apron
-
Use only distilled or demineralized water for topping up
-
Maintain electrolyte level above plates but below maximum mark
-
Never add acid to electrolyte - only add water
-
Clean any electrolyte spills immediately with bicarbonate solution
Discharging Precautions
- Avoid continuous discharge below 1.0V per cell
-
Limit maximum discharge current to 5C (1000A) for 30 seconds maximum
-
Monitor cell temperatures during high-rate discharges
-
Allow cooling between high-current discharge cycles
Storage & Handling
- Store in cool, dry, well-ventilated area
-
Keep away from direct sunlight and heat sources
-
Store upright to prevent electrolyte leakage
-
Keep terminals protected and insulated when not in use
-
Implement earthquake protection in seismic zones
Transportation
- Transport upright to prevent electrolyte leakage
-
