Warnings & Precautions

Charging

  • Use a Ni-MH Specific Charger: Always use a smart charger designed for Ni-MH chemistry that features -ΔV (negative delta voltage) detection and temperature monitoring to correctly terminate the charge. Never use a Ni-Cd (nickel-cadmium) only charger.

  • Avoid Continuous Trickle Charging: Modern high-capacity Ni-MH cells are not designed for indefinite trickle charging. This can lead to overcharge and damage. If a maintenance charge is needed, use a very low current (< C/50) and a timer.

  • Charge in a Safe Area: Charge in a well-ventilated area on a non-flammable surface.

Discharging

  • Prevent Deep Discharge: Never discharge the pack below 3.0V under load. Allowing individual cells to reverse polarity can cause permanent damage.

  • Current Limits: Adhere to the maximum continuous discharge rating. While the pack can handle high pulses, sustained over-current will cause excessive heat and shorten lifespan.

  • Allow Cooling: Let the battery cool to near ambient temperature after heavy use before recharging.

 
Storage
 
  • Optimal Storage State: For long-term storage (>1 month), condition the pack to a 40-60% state of charge (open-circuit voltage ~3.8V - 3.9V).

  • Cell Matching: When building or servicing the pack, ensure all cells are from the same manufacturer, model, and batch to ensure balanced performance.

  • Care: Do not puncture, crush, or disassemble the pack. Keep terminals clean and protected from short circuits.
