Functional Overview
The hydraulic main pump is defined as the power source of excavator hydraulic system, mechanically driven by the prime engine to implement energy conversion from mechanical energy to high-pressure hydraulic energy. It provides pressurized working medium for all executive hydraulic components covering boom, dipper, bucket, travel and swing driving motors.
Type Specification
All mainstream engineering excavators adopt axial variable piston pump configuration; tandem integrated double main pump is standard configuration for medium and large-size models, with pilot gear pump integrally assembled on rear end face.
Dual-chamber main pump works under rated working pressure 28~35MPa, two independent oil supply loops realize separate oil delivery for composite operation requirements. The attached pilot pump is designed for low-pressure & low-flow working condition with rated pressure 3~4MPa, specially providing pilot control oil for manipulation joysticks and main control valve spool driving.

Component Composition
Pump shell plus cylinder block is assembled with multiple plunger groups accomplishing oil suction and pressurization following main shaft rotary motion. Swash plate inclination directly modulates plunger stroke and pump volumetric displacement. External hydraulic servo regulator receives pilot pressure signal to adjust swash deflection angle. Increased inclination expands displacement and flow rate to speed up operation; reduced inclination minimizes flow output to save fuel and eliminate engine overload shutdown risk. Valve plate is arranged between suction and discharge chambers for fluid allocation and high-low pressure isolation.
Three Core Control Mechanisms
Constant power matching function automatically reduces pump displacement following load growth to optimize engine power utilization and prevent stall. Load sensing control dynamically adjusts outflow consistent with real working requirement and maintains minimal displacement under no-load working status for energy saving. Pressure limiting cutoff function sharply lowers pump displacement to minimum value once system pressure reaches set threshold value to protect pipeline and hydraulic cylinder against overpressure rupture.
Common Fault Analysis
Internal leakage caused by abrasion of friction matching parts or regulator jamming leads to insufficient flow supply and slow whole-machine action. Fixed large-displacement regulator results in excess oil supply, engine overload and black smoke exhaust. Massive internal hydraulic leakage converts wasted pressure into heat, causing continuous rise of hydraulic oil temperature. Air entrainment from loose suction pipeline, inadequate liquid level or damaged internal moving parts creates abnormal pump vibration and harsh sound.
Regular Maintenance Rules
Carry out periodic replacement of hydraulic working fluid and filter assemblies to prevent particle abrasion on core precision parts. Strictly inspect sealing performance of oil suction piping to avoid air access and operational jitter. Maintain hydraulic oil within specified scale to prolong pump service lifespan effectively.
