Function
The hydraulic main pump acts as the key power component for excavator hydraulic systems. It is driven by the engine, converts mechanical energy into high-pressure hydraulic energy, and supplies pressurized medium to hydraulic motors to drive all boom, stick, bucket, travel and swing operations.
Type
Axial variable displacement piston pumps are standard equipment for engineering excavators. Medium and large machines use integrated dual main pumps together with a rear pilot gear pump.
The dual high-pressure pumps have separate oil supply routes, feeding the main control valve to realize composite movements, with operating pressure 28~35MPa.
The low-pressure pilot pump at the pump tail operates at 3~4MPa with low flow rate, delivering pilot oil for control handles and valve spools.

Internal Parts
The housing and cylinder block are fitted with multiple pistons, which rotate with the main shaft to finish oil suction and pressure build-up.
Swash plate tilt angle changes piston stroke and pump displacement. The external servo regulator adjusts the swash plate according to hydraulic feedback.

Common Failures
Piston wear, valve plate damage or regulator blockage causes internal leakage, resulting in slow operation and insufficient power output.
Regulator locked at full displacement leads to engine overload, black smoke and stall during heavy work.
Heavy internal leakage generates excess heat and causes hydraulic oil overheating. Air, low oil level or damaged parts will produce abnormal noise.

Maintenance
Replace hydraulic oil and filters periodically to avoid wear on precision parts. Seal suction pipelines tightly to prevent air intake and vibration. Keep hydraulic fluid at the specified level.
