Function
Hydraulic main pump is the core power unit of excavator hydraulics. Driven by engine, it converts mechanical energy to high-pressure hydraulic energy and supplies pressurized fluid to hydraulic motors for all working motions.
Type
Axial variable piston pumps are standard for construction excavators. Medium and large excavators adopt integrated dual main pumps plus rear pilot gear pump.
Dual independent high-pressure oil circuits serve main control valve for composite actions, working pressure: 28~35MPa.
Tail pilot pump works at 3~4MPa (low flow), providing control oil for levers and valve spools.

Internal Parts
Piston assemblies rotate with main shaft to suck and pressurize oil. Swash plate angle adjusts piston stroke and pump displacement.
External servo regulator controls swash plate via hydraulic feedback. Larger angle = higher flow & speed; smaller angle = lower fuel consumption.
Valve plate separates low-pressure inlet and high-pressure outlet for oil distribution.

Three Control Modes
- Constant power control: Reduce displacement under heavy load to protect engine.
- LS load sensing: On-demand flow, low displacement at idle for fuel saving.
- HP pressure limit: Cut displacement at peak pressure to protect hydraulic components.
Common Failures
Internal leakage (worn pistons/valve plate/blocked regulator): Slow operation, low power.
Regulator stuck at max displacement: Engine overload, black smoke, stall.
Excessive leakage: Hydraulic oil overheating. Air intake/damaged parts: Abnormal noise.
