Function
As the fundamental power source of excavator hydraulic loops, the main hydraulic pump is driven by the engine. It accomplishes energy conversion from mechanical form to high-pressure hydraulic form and transports pressurized medium to hydraulic motors to drive boom, arm, bucket, travel and swing movements.
Type
Axial variable displacement piston pumps are the prevailing option for construction excavators. Medium & large tonnage models utilize integrated double main pumps equipped with a rear pilot gear pump.
Dual independent high-pressure oil circuits supply fluid to the main control valve to achieve composite action coordination, with working pressure between 28MPa and 35MPa.
Mounted on the pump rear end, the low-pressure pilot pump works at 3~4MPa with small flow rate, supplying pilot control oil for operating handles and main valve spools.

Internal Parts
Multiple piston assemblies fitted in housing and cylinder block rotate synchronously with main shaft to complete oil suction and pressure generation.
Adjusting swash plate tilt angle changes piston stroke length, further regulating pump volumetric displacement.
External servo regulator adjusts swash plate position according to hydraulic feedback signals. Increased angle brings larger displacement and higher flow speed; decreased angle cuts fuel consumption and avoids engine shutdown.
The valve plate separates low-pressure inlet channel and high-pressure outlet channel to distribute hydraulic fluid properly.

Common Failures
Internal leakage caused by piston wear, valve plate damage or regulator blockage results in slow movement speed and insufficient output power.
Regulator stuck at full displacement will create engine overload phenomenon, accompanied by black smoke and engine stall under heavy load work.
Excessive internal leakage turns pressure loss into heat energy, leading to abnormally elevated hydraulic oil temperature.
Air entrainment, inadequate hydraulic oil or damaged bearing and piston components will create abnormal running sound.
