Application
Sodium pyrophosphate is used as a chelating agent for metal ions, such as copper in electroplating solution. Used as rust remover in machining. Used as stabilizer of hydrogen peroxide. The bleaching agent and wool degreasing agent were compounded with sodium hydrosulfite. In water treatment, it is used as softener and boiler scale remover. When calcium hydrogen phosphate is used in toothpaste, sodium pyrophosphate is added to form colloid and stabilize it. It is used as dispersant, anticoagulant, emulsifier and quality improver in chemical industry and food industry. It can also be used as raw material for other pyrophosphates.

Properties
Sodium pyrophosphate can react with metal ions. The pH value of 1% aqueous solution is 10.0-10.2. It has the general properties of common polyphosphate, such as emulsifying, dispersing, preventing fat oxidation, improving protein binding, and inhibiting food oxidation and fermentation at high pH value.
Preparation method
Anhydrous disodium hydrogen phosphate is prepared by drying disodium hydrogen phosphate aqueous solution, and then dehydrated and polymerized at high temperature. It can be divided into one-step method and two-step method. One step method is used to dry and polymerize in one equipment, and two-step method is used to dry and polymerize in two equipment. The equipment of one-step process is simple, the process is short, but the quality is not stable. The two-step process has the advantages of complex equipment, long process and stable product quality.
